Tampout represents a cost-effective and safe alternative for women to assist them in removal of menstrual products. It aims to reduce the number of emergency room visits for women living in poverty. It accomplishes this through a patent-pending, medical-grade silicone, soft and flexible finger device. This device can easily be used in the comfort of a woman’s home to search and retrieve possible retained menstrual products such as tampons, menstrual cups, and discs. Moreover, the device is affordable and reusable, making it a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional single-use menstrual products that contribute significantly to environmental waste.
In addition to alleviating the financial burdens, Tampout meaningfully addresses the health risks associated with improperly removed menstrual products. Women living in poverty may not have access to proper healthcare facilities or may be unable to take time off work to visit a healthcare facility for menstrual product removal (Schlievert & Davis, 2020). Accordingly, Tampout provides a safe and effective way for women to remove menstrual products in the comfort of their own homes, thereby reducing the risk of TSS and other related health complications.

Question 2. Description of the Innovation
The innovation created by Dr. Yuliya Boruch is a medical grade, soft, and flexible finger device called Tampout. This device is designed to help women search and retrieve any possible retained menstrual products, such as tampons, menstrual cups, and discs. This device comes in a pair, and can be used with either a single or double finger technique. It can be used in the comfort of a woman’s own home and is easily washed with warm soap and water and stored in a storage pouch for the next menstrual cycle.
The tool is made to be soft and flexible, which makes it convenient and comfortable to use. In addition, Tampout is intended to help find and draw down a missing tampon string, as well as grab and pull down a tampon or cup, making it more flexible than current options and accepted practice. Tampout is made from medical-grade silicone, which is known to be a material that is both durable and long-lasting. In comparison, Bloody Buddy is a firm cup that is made from unspecified material. Although the company’s website claims that the product should be able to last for 10 years, they do not offer any details whatsoever about what type of material is used to create the product. Consequently, it is difficult to ascertain or believe the claim that their product will last for 10 years.
Another potential advantage that Tampout holds over this competitor is that Tampout offers a one-size-fits-all design. This eliminates the need for users to purchase multiple cups in different sizes. Not only does this reduce costs and waste associated with purchasing and discarding multiple cups, but it reduces the environmental impact. In comparison, Bloody Buddy offers three different sizes (Rosas, 2021). This could potentially lead to women discarding and replacing multiple cups as their needs change.
It should also be noted that Rosas (2021) found that the capacity of some of the Bloody Buddy cup sizes are less than average. In other words, their cup sizes will not hold as much menstrual fluid. This will be a concern for women who have a heavier flow. Tampout’s products is considerate of this, and we ensure that our products have a capacity to match each women’s individual menstrual needs.
Finally, Rosas (2021) noted that the Bloody Buddy cup tends to be on the longer side. This might make using the product uncomfortable for some women who have a low cervix. Neither of the current major alternatives that are on the market make a clear statement on their environmental or social impact. This is concerning, given the potential environmental impact of menstruation. As Harrison and Tyson (2022) noted, there is a growing environmental burden of menstrual products and hygiene products.
As a result of this, Tampout is – and will be marketed as – a socially responsible company that is focused on helping improve women’s menstrual health and hygiene. The company was created by dr. Yuliya Boruch – OBGYN Nurse Practitioner and midwife with 20 years of OB-GYN experience. Running a small private ob-gyn practice in the heart of Manhattan- Yuliya noticed that that one area of women’s health was overlooked and never addressed.
Use of menstrual product s such as tampons , menstrual cups and disk increased tremendously in the past decade. As women and teen girls living active life styles these menstrual products became invaluable in our every day live. Girls are able to participate in competitive sports such as gymnastics and swimming without a shame of being bled- through. Tampons and other menstrual products freely available for usage in schools and other educational facilities. But with all these availability there are risks that no-one is talking about and in 100 year history of tampons being on market – its a gap that Tampout product is trying to close.

Problem: Women come in different sizes and shapes outside as well as inside. Unique pelvic anatomy and vaginal configurations- let market to create thousand of different size and shapes of tampons and menstrual cups. However, these products sometimes able to “hide” on the posterior wall of vagina and women is unable to remove either product.
Menstrual cups or disks can create a seal around cervix- and requires women to go inside with a finger , break a seal nd remove the device. Due to certain anatomy restrains- the fingers are too short or there is not enough room to “break” the seal – and woman end up in doctors’s office or ER for removal. Today, in order to remove a retained menstrual product- woman needs to physically come-in to the office for provider to remove retained product.
Same comes with Tampon usage- once its soaked – or the tampon strings becomes tanged behind the cervix— woman is unable to retrieve her tampon and this creates a “ perfect storm” from deadly condition called Toxic Shock Syndrome TSS. In 21st century women still develop TSS from retained tampons 6 women in 100,000 per year and 1 in 100, 000 with lethal outcome. Yes, we send people to mars and moon and still have women die from using a simple form of personal hygiene. It only takes few days for retain tampon to have risk of Bacteria growth ( Staphylococcus aureus) and to travel inside body and cause septic-like symptoms ( fever, chills). Many of these symptoms are often mistaken for common cold or flu- thus making TTS development more dangerous and deadly.
